“Awareness is never the end goal. For awareness to become a true a breakthrough, it needs to lead to change. What good are our coding skills if we can’t build something of value with it? What good are our engineering skills if we can’t solve real world problems with it? What good are our mathematical skills if we can’t calculate the right change for our grocer? What good is our self awareness if it doesn’t change the experience of our lives for the better?”
This is true. The frustrating thing with change is that it takes time, patience and effort to see the changes. Rewriting beliefs and behaviours through the conscious mind brings up a lot of resistance (psychological reactance)
As an RTT therapist, I use hypnotherapy with my clients to change their mindset after we uncover the root cause and reframe the meaning of last events. Having been a client of conventional psychotherapy once, I can relate to the frustrations of clients when they understand the root cause of their issue but are unable to change or take too long to change.
Absolutely! Self knowledge is the foundation and from that we must build change.
I have found the only successful way for me to truly shift is to shine the light on what is lurking below the surface and driving my behaviour. Once I use my thinking mind to shed light on my unconscious mind it is no longer driving the boat.
I’ve managed to make some huge changes using the steps you outlined and questioning my thoughts and behaviours, for example I stopped drinking alcohol (and I enjoyed my wine!)

Really good reminder, thank you
This is amazing. I have been listening for a while and often save these. Brilliant writing and advice. Thank you.

I enjoyed your article, thanks!
Thank you
Excellent. I am also intrigued by the science of Behavioral Genetics. And I'm a big Stephen Covey fan. He once said, "I am not my tendencies."
Many thanks!
